Scrutiniser
An iPhone tool for technicians

Keep the details.
Keep the context.

Control focus, photograph the small things, and bring pictures, codes and notes together in an inspection.

Scrutiniser is being prepared for a small TestFlight beta. It is not yet publicly available.

  1. Frame the marking you want to photograph.
  2. Move the manual-focus slider and judge the detail by eye.
  3. Tap Magnifier to inspect the enlarged focus view.

The Macro button stays visible beside the shutter. Magnification helps you judge focus; it does not measure distance.

01 / PHOTOGRAPH

Get the detail in focus.

Use manual focus, available camera lenses and magnification to frame equipment, labels and small parts.

02 / READ

Keep the marking and its source.

Read barcodes and printed text, then check the recognised value against the picture.

03 / DOCUMENT

Build a useful record.

Group photos and scans under a job reference. Add labels and inspection notes, then export text, a PDF or an inspection ZIP.

Camera mode · One-handed capture

Focus and photograph with one thumb.

A simpler camera view keeps focus, the torch and Macro within reach.

HOLD & SLIDE

Find your focus.

Tap the hand icon in Camera. Hold on a clear part of the viewfinder until the halo appears, then slide up or right for farther focus, down or left for nearer focus. Lift to keep your focus setting.

TAP

Take the picture.

Tap the clear viewfinder separately to photograph. A small thumbnail gives you feedback after capture and opens the picture for review.

HOLD THE FLOWER

Choose your Macro framing.

Hold the Macro flower to reveal a vertical zoom track. Keep your finger down, slide along the track and release at the setting you want. A quick tap still switches Macro on or off.

Manual focus depends on the selected camera. Near and Far indicate focus adjustment, not measured distance. Macro zoom crops the picture, so tighter framing saves fewer pixels.
